Sitting in my hotel room looking at the river and the beautiful clouds move across the sky you might never imagine what a horrible landing we endured this afternoon. The flight was pretty nice until we began to decend through the clouds. There were lots of bumps but they became much worse as we got closer to the ground. As it was in Denver, it was very windy here in Minneapolis/St. Paul and there was a lot of movement as one wing dipped and the other rose while the crew tried to get the plane in line for landing. Angelica will have to tell you how close to the ground we were (I couldn't look) when the plane pulled up and we went around again! After a repeat of all the bumps, dips, shivers and shakes as well as a looong turn we finally made it down on the runway to the applause of all the passengers.
I have to fly home through Minneapolis next week--please pray for calm weather!

Oh no! I'm sorry the flight was so bad! It must have been a nightmare. I'm glad you both landed safely.
ReplyDeleteI have to say the flight was pretty bad. Pretty much the whole plane gasped several times when we "dropped" from the wind. It was like riding a roller coaster.
ReplyDeleteI was in the aisle seat looking out the window. I felt pretty confident that we would "make it" - apparently some other folks on the plane weren't. I just wanted the plane in one piece when we landed and it to be soon. Both flights I was not very smart about drinking quite a bit of tea. When it gets turbulent like that - you really can't leave your seat (not that you'd want to)! Heh heh heh.
We made it one piece safe and sound - and most important the luggage arrived! I was very interested to see the difference in "vibe" getting off the plane in MN - the whole airport was - quiet and calm. Nothing like CA!
Our shuttle ride was of course filled with ACM people. we had Spokane , WA people, Long Island, NY, a woman from a university in Alaska focusing on Technology and child. mus., and then a woman from England (freelance consultant) who focuses on designing c.m. with the help of children and families. Very neat. I think the reaction has been surprise from each party when they learn we are from a library. Not sure why. It will be interesting to see if it continues into tomorrow. I would LOVE to come back to an ACM with the PALs and see what happens!
Overall, MN is beautiful! Trees everywhere, I love the overcast gray sky and even the wind. Just gorgeous. I have to say - so far - the restaurants have left something to be desired (I know it's not the travel channel or food network). I just have to say this isn't the food capitol if you're planning a trip here. Gorgeous landscape, nice people - both yes.
Renee and I just met over a snack dinner and debriefed over what sessions we were attending. For the most part - conquer and divide. There's a lot of great stuff to check out.
Sessions range from tips on grant writing, exhibit design, partnering with folks, getting the educational word out, hiring new staff, etc, etc. All FASCINATING and extremely helpful topics for anyone in the industry ... or looking to get in.
It looks like (according the lineup) that we can gather info useful for programming now (woohoo), info. on marketing/using the PALS, applying for some more grants, and maybe hopefully in the future design some new ones?
It will be a full day tomorrow starting bright and early. we'll be bringing the laptops and blogging :).
Hope all is well back at the ranch (er - library)!
All is well here! Glad everyone is safe!
